Question: In what ways do you think Lycos could improve this site?

It may be best to leave this for a couple of weeks as some changes are under way already. It is a Beta site and is still in a state of flux so changes are being made.
Lets find out what the changes are and then see what else could improve it then.

You are currently awarded points for asking questions, this leads to people asking question that really have very little to do with people's IQ (what’s your favourite drink?) or trivia questions that one quick Google search will provide the answer . Sometimes it seems like people just want to chat in which case they are better off in a forum.

If there is one golden answer the first person to get it right should get all the points rather than splitting them with the person who added the answer 4 hours later.

Luckily there is no IQ test to pass before joining, which is good. This means that it is not an elitest site.

There are no rules that say you have to ask a certain number of questions within a certain period of time. I have asked 22 questions but I note that some members have only asked one or two and some have not asked any. Luckily there is no rule against that either.

I have noticed that many members use the facilities available to 'chat' which is fine. They can't be expected to remain stationary for long periods waiting for a question to come in.

I have also noted that many of the questions are not IQ questions but, luckily, we don't penalise them either. Being a democratic site means that you can express an opinion (as long as it is inoffensive), ask a question or give an answer as you please, which is good.

So I am quite happy not to be told what to do, where to go, what to think, what to ask and I look forward to functional improvements soon. Well done Lycos.

I think someone made a good point the other day in that perhaps directly asked questions could be flagged as such.

I'd love to be able to find out all of the 'rules' of the site. What does it mean when someone invites you to be in their network? What are the different point levels for different rankings? What can you, and can't you , ask?

I am in total agreement with hiheels - directly asked questions should be flagged.

There is actually a Lycos IQ blog, to which I believe members can contribute with ideas for the site.

It was mentioned in this question here, months ago:

http://iq.lycos.co.uk/qa/show/6149/Is+there+any+place+where+where+we+can+find+ou... copy

thing is, no one seems to have used it, so I don't know if whoever set it up (presumably someone at Lycos) ever actually checks it.
