First, you will need to download the party hat template. From there, print out the template. It will be necessary to enlarge or shrink the template for people who have larger/smaller heads. So, resize the template a few times and print all of them out. Cut the templates and try them on different people's heads. Try to write down the size for each template so that you can print another copy should you need to do so.
For this project, you will need: a pair of scissors, glue or tape or a stapler, and the template. You will also need any decorative accessories, such as stickers, wrapping paper, crayons and markers, etc.
You can download the template at this .
After printing out the template, cut it out. As you can see it is a simple half circle. So, if you want to create a bigger hat, you will need to make the diameter (or the length) of the half circle bigger. You will also need to readjust the arc as necessary. It is easy to do this with a protractor.
Now you can decorate the hat. For this cone hat, you will need wrapping paper that says "Happy New Year's!" (or anything that is related to the New Year). Now, place the cut out template so that it is on top of the wrapping paper. Cut around the template. Now you have a cut piece of wrapping paper that is shaped like your template. You can leave as is and continue to the next step, or decorate even further.
Next, fold the cut-out piece so that you form a cone hat. The center of the arc will be the point of the cone hat. To secure the edges, staple them together or use glue or tape. If you are using glue, you will need to hold the seam down until the glue has dried. The stapler does a better job of holding the hat together without all of the sticky mess.
If you do not want to have to clean up while your guests are around, you can create the basic hats for your guests and then have them decorate it the way they want. You can use any type of paper that will hold its shape well and that has a few party designs on it.
This is a great activity to do with your New Year's party guests, or even with your kids.
