Does going to the chiropractor for an adjustment ...

Does going to the chiropractor for an adjustment hurt? I have been having a lot of lower back pain and my regular physician recommended a chiropractor but I have never been so I am kind of nervous.

I think it feels wonderful. The first time you may not love it because since you don't know what to expect you might tense up a bit. If you can relax your body it will help tremendously.

A chiropractic adjustment very rarely ever hurts. If it does it's usually because the muscles around the area being adjusted are so tight that the adjustment is difficult. However, if this is the case, some exercises, stretching and massage loosens up these muscles so that the adjustment is quick and painless. No ethical chiropractor will tell you that a chiropractic adjustment never hurts. However, I feel comfortable saying that it almost never hurts, and on the rare occasion that it does, it's only for a split second or so, after which patients usually feel far less pain than when they came in. I should point out that chiropractic is not an instant fix for pain. Depending on what is causing the pain, several treatments are usually required to alleviate the underlying problem. Once the problem is fixed, then any adjustments on an ongoing basis would be merely for maintenance, ensuring that the spine and joints stay in their proper alignment. Depends on the type of chiropractic adjustment you get. A lot of people associate an adjustment with "cracking and popping" but not all chiropractors use the same method. I get what's called a "NUCCA adjustment" from an upper cervical chiropractor, which I have found to be a much more gentle approach. In fact, you barely feel it at times. I can't say enough about how much my doctor has helped stop my neck pain and improve my ability to sleep. If anyone is ever in south florida, I suggest you check out my chiropractor in parkland.
