This may sound dangerous but it isn't.. Take a pair of pliers (make sure that the two ends are metal bare) .. Put on a good thick pair of gloves then under the hood open the pliers wide then place one end onto the negative and touch the other on the positive post.. If it sparks so bright that it scares the crap out of you and in fact you drop the pliers then the battery is fully charged.. However, when you touch the positive and it barely sparks no matter how many times you do it then it's time to replace it. Before replacing, give it a good charge then take it to an auto supply and have them confirm your results because it may just be low as the alternator drags it down.. If the alternator is working fine then replace that bad battery.

Oh god, doing it that way is going to start a fire or something.
Take the battery to a car parts store. They can test it there.

If Carbattery just needs a jump start and battery drain in less time, then once you have stated the car it will recharge. If the battery fails to recharge, then either you need a new battery or your alternator is not charging. If your battery is in good condition, the voltage should be between 12.4 and 12.7 volts.
