Hurts when son pees

Hi Yesterday afternoon my 6 1/2 yo was busting to go to the toilet after i picked him up from school and he didnt make it and peed his pants in the driveway. That night he comes up to me and complains that his penis is a bit sore. Hubby had a look and said it did look a bit red when he pulled it back a bit. Now this morning my son went to the toilet and comes out crying saying his penis hurts when he pees. Could this be a UTI? or could it have to do with him holding on to his pee all day long and not go at school (he doesnt like going to the toilet at school). This is the first time this has happened to him, saying his penis hurts when he pees.

Re: Hurts when son pees
If your son is not circumsized they can also get an infection under the foreskin from build up of dead skin cells etc (smegma!) which would make peeing painful and also the penis sore and swollen. In any case, sounds like an infection that woill need to be seen by the doctor and treated with antibiotics. Hope he's feeling better.

Re: Hurts when son pees
I agree, it does sound like a UTI. My son had one when he was 18 months old, it came on so quick that we didn't know what was going on until he wee burnt his penis. (he actually had a blister on the tip of his penis from the wee burning him.) Josh's was so bad he ended up in hospital on a drip. It's best to get him checked out ASAP as they can lead to kidney infections. Maybe also speak to the doctor about talking to your son about the importance of not holding on for so long at school, also talk to his teacher about it as well, maybe there is a reason why he doesn't like using the toilet that can be easily fixed. Hope this helps Juzzy xoxoxo

Re: Hurts when son pees
Sounds like they could be interlinked but I would be suspecting a uti. I suggest taking him to the doctor. Its not good to hold for that long and can also apparently lead to uti's as well. Best of luck and I hope it gets sorted soon. xx.
