Kindy/Pre-primary

Hi all!! What age do kids start kindy/pre-primary? Aaliyah is 3 in May and I'm wondering when she'll have to start "schooling". Also - anyone know how to get ya hands on the curriculum they teach at kindy etc - would like to see if I can start some things at home but have no idea how lol

Re: Kindy/Pre-primary
Being in May she can attend 3yr old kinda now, start prep in 2011.  My sisters son is born 25th June.  He is now in Yr1, he struggled during his prep year as he is literally the youngest but is now coming along in leaps and bounds.  You do have the choice if you or her kindergarten teachers do not feel she will be ready to hold her back a year.

Re: Kindy/Pre-primary
she starts next year. PUT HER NAME DOWN NOW........ for a placement. look at your schools where u are and see what they are like. I can ask my GF Karyn for you what the schools are like there as she is a teacher and I only when to Challis which is out of your area. I think Kelmscott would be in ur area. just looked at google map and Challis might be in your area. look about. what they do in Kindy: They learn their name recognation. Colours, Numbers, gross motor skills such as painting, colouring, gluing. They get read books and will learn the ABC. They learn to run in a line balance on beams. Social skills. they also learn to follow instructions and join in on group activities. also any learning disabilities the teacher can pick up on BEFORE there is a real problem (like they did with Alex) Kindy is alot of fun and generally 2 days a week. I would sugest you find 1 that is 2 days a week rather than 4 half days as it takes a lot out of you as well as the kids dont learn as much as they can in the 2 full days ( this is from my MIL who is a kindy/PP teacher) Kindy is not a compulsary class, nor is PP but it is advised you do it. If you want some thing to do with her now MM me and I can get some stuff from my GF Karyn or my MIL (My MIL is at a christian school)

Re: Kindy/Pre-primary
It depends on what state you are in as to when kids can start school and kinder, in Victoria it is April 30th, I believe in NSW it is July, SA used to be different as well, so you will need to check with the Dept of education in your state or your local Maternal and Child healthcare nurse.  As for the curriculum, just ask them, the Kinder they should be able to provide you with a booklet

Re: Kindy/Pre-primary
Hi, As she turns 3 in May she can start 3yr old kinder next year (2010)  she's missed the cut off for this year. From there it's 4yr and then off to school when she's nearly 6.  They usually have to turn 4 before the 30th april of the attending year if that makes sense. To go to 4yr old kinder obviously.  You should enrol her this year for next year for 3yr old kinder in order to assure you get the place at the kinder you want.  Most 4yr old kinders are done by the council and you usually enrol up to 2yrs in advance, so that might be worth looking into aswell, the earlier you do it the higher your chances of getting the kinder you want.  Ask your MCHN they should have all the details. As for getting started, I've been told get them familair with numbers and letters and there name, but thats  more for 4yr old kinder and school. I hope all that makes sense, good luck.
