Because that’s what I thought without influence. When I was a child, and I heard about “God,” I assumed it was a female they were refering to.

Now I don’t believe in it at all, so it doesn’t really matter.

God is a Man, he is white, although his race is unimportant… but just you watch all those of you out there that get offended by this, be careful of the irony you step into.

As for all those hating God for being a man, or me claiming so. There is more to the story I am sure… I mean how did you get here? Your father didn’t do it all by himself right?

The idea posted on the right of this column that God is asexual is wrong. It is very imaginary but not very reasonable. Also to think that he is just a spirit is very old testment thinking. God does not dwell within everything either… I just thought that I would post that before someone says he is in the trees and in every person alive.

There is much more to God than even I know but I am sure of what I know of him thus far. I hope this helps people start thinking more of him, and how they relate to him, as I am generally disappointed by the Godlessness the internet is fostering.

There is ZERO proof that God is male, just like there is ZERO proof God is a female ( by the way GodDESS would refer to female anyway). God is a spirit. A spirit that does not take on the form of either male or female. God is a spiritual being.

God is a spirit although he has revealed himself to mankind as a male form. Genesis 1:26-27 says, “And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth. So God created man in His [own] image, in the image of God created he Him; male and female created He them.” So BOTH male and female were created in his own image. Yet scripture has nearly 170 references to God as the Father .. being human it is very hard to put God in a box of physcial characteristics as he is a spirit.

God doesn’t have a gender. My beliefs are strikingly similar to Kelly’s. God isn’t a human, or a single being of any sort. God is everything. I make up a part of god, and god makes me. Each and every rock makes up a part of god, and god makes every rock. God literally is everything. God is empty space, god is Earth, god is us. The combination of every atom and piece of empty space makes up god. I believe that god can’t even really think. God is, essentially, nature. So if one was to say “god created the earth in 6 days,” then I would agree and respond by pointing out that no matter who god is, one day for him is probably not the equivalent of one day to man. One day for man is one rotation of the earth, and so one day for god could very possibly be one rotation of the universe. Maybe not, who knows. Not to mention, there was no sun until the third day, and so who knows how long a day was? I say all of this because if god is nature, then god could have indeed created the earth in six days, but not six days as we know it. Six days in relation to god. The Earth could have formed naturally (god is nature and EVERYTHING in it) over a period of billions of years as we know a year today, but only six days in relation to god when the earth was created. Maybe I’m being confusing, I don’t know… still, if one looks at god the way I do, then god isn’t a being, but just nature. God cannot think or purposely do things, but everything that happens is due to god, because everything that happens is natural.

Still, at the same time, I have a hell of a hard time thinking that god can’t deliberately change things when the universe exists. There are just too many situations that work out way to perfectly for pure chance to be the only thing taking part in things. Ugh, I’m kind of unsure on what I really believe I guess. Still, I think no matter what I believe, god doesn’t have a sex. What would be the point of god having sexual organs?

Did you ever think that all discrimination, sexism, racism, etc … is created and fostered by the male dominated religions? These “religions” are being taught to the youth of today.

Did you ever think that religion is a problem or that thousands of deaths have been caused by religious differences?

How about on August 18, 1920, when women finally got the right to vote; did you ever think that male domination is the reason it took so long?

I hate to spark yet another argument with you that will probably only end in us both making asses of ourselves, but why are you so sure god is male? Especially when you say there is “more to god than even you (o great logical one) know.”

As for your suggestion that god needed a woman to produce man… “As for all those hating God for being a man, or me claiming so. There is more to the story I am sure… I mean how did you get here? Your father didn’t do it all by himself right?”… Are you religious at all? Are you associated with a religion that reads the Bible? Because if you really read the bible, you’ll discover your idea is quite wrong. God created man without any woman. He used clay in the bible. And then a rib. Woman came after man. So far as I can tell, god is a virgin.

I really don’t understand why a spirit would have any need for sexual organs at all.

Leading Cause of Death, its like your trying to speak to me I just know it!!! I think your point is that since man has dominated society in the past, God can not be male? Nice logical point? anyway I really have no clue what your trying to communicate.

Isaiah! Don’t let the Bible be your only guide. Science has lots to offer in understanding God too. The Bible is clear to those “spiritually” in-tune to its teachings. However, who cares, the Bible is not all that there is out there to learn about the nature of God. Take for example the Qur’an. It mentions the same holy prophets as mentioned in the Bible, but contains other documents as well. Blah Blah Blah. Anyway, it is quite presumptuous of you to assume that I am going to be able to modify your views of God, I mean after all I am Logic, your sworn enemy :). But I am sure that you can even look out side of the literal writings of the Bible to find out more of Him.

Oh, I don’t really look at the bible much to form my opinions. I was just wondering if you did, seems like someone who is so sure of god being male is getting his evidence from the Bible. But I like your idea of looking everywhere. Despite our assumed hostility toward each other, I’m agreeing strongly with you. I actually love science. I think it’s actually kind of cool to take a religious book and compare it to science. I’ve never really looked at much other than the Bible and the Book of Mormon, and I know a little bit about Buddhism, but it’s really surprising how often science can actually provesomething in the Bible, rather than disprove it. I really don’t understand why science and religion are always seen as polar opposites. If anything, science will only prove the bible, and if it proves the bible, then more people should be supporting science. I don’t know. It’s really funny how hypocritical both scientists and religious figures are, for the most part, that is. Anyway, I think it would be very unwise to base everything you live for in life on just one book that your parents introduced you to. It seems like the best thing to do would be to have an open mind about things. Way to go Logic. I’m really quite surprised that I agree so strongly with you on anything. Haha, yes, I suppose we pretty much do despise each other don’t we? :)

Hey, by the way, you never really said why you’re so certain god is a man. I still think god is without sexual organs.

It seems like science picks on religion as though to say “see how right we are”. Never mind that science can be right without tearing down peoples personal beliefs. I don’t really know why scientist (particularly evolutionary scientists) spend so much time trying to disprove religious beliefs. I would be interested to see some statistical analysis of how astronomers compare to evolutionary biologists in regard to religiosity. Furthermore, I would also like to know why people feel that God has to have certain Characteristics. eg. he is everywhere, in the trees etc, he is a she, it is without physical dimensions. God if female did not have a lesbian experience with Mary to conceive Jesus) wow that felt almost blasphemous. And why need a woman to conceive Jesus at all after all he could have just taken some clay… Ok lets get real he did not literally take clay, that is just how ancient prophets were able to describe what they were seeing when revealed the creation. I am sure that they did not have words like cell, and DNA etc. But God did use all of those things in creating man. He didn’t just say poof and there it was, he is not a magician… the best part is that… GOD IS A SCIENTIST! The best scientist you could possibly imagine. Isn’t that comical that science is spending so much time trying to disprove the Father of their practice!!? Some might say well what about evolution… what of it? So God uses evolutionary means to bring about his purposes. Just because evolution happens doesn’t disprove God. That line of thinking falls in with Leading Cause of Deaths God can’t be a man because historically man is bad. I am certain that God is a man, like I am a man. I am sure he is different from me in some ways but that gender is important… God is not asexual. Finally I am glad that we agree and that we can get back to disagreeing but before I post, let me say that if you want to know if God exists and any other characteristics of him then find out as much as possible out there and then ask him specific questions. Not are u a man. But specific to the things you have found out. I can not give you my knowledge of his being a man. Nor can I give you my knowledge of how to ride a bike… eventually you just have to try, try again, try again and eventually find out. I would be disappointed if anyone went away from this site thinking they had finally figured out God from what they read… but hopefully it will get people thinking about it. That is all

Of all the different interpretations of what the human species views as “god”, I think that we can’t tag the divine being as any sex, species, or really as existing at all. It seems mildly presumptuous to say “He is male”, or that your god is of no gender, or that we all share a collective god with specific characteristics. Our beliefs are exactly that - ours - and to say that one belief takes precedence over another is flawed.

But that’s more of a general statement which can apply to most opinions, and doesn’t really help debate the specifics of popular modern religion as I think you’re all trying to do. Anyway.

Oh, and Isaiah, I finally decided to get an account. Whoo!
