Every model or visual representation of a water molecule that I've seen shows the single oxygen atom with the two hydrogen atoms, not at opposite sides of the oxygen atom, but positioned at an angle to one another. Furthermore, it seems to be a very specific angle.
What is it about oxygen or hydrogen that accounts for that? Is there some inherent asymmetry to the atoms? I would think that overall,in general, that whatever forces they have would be fairly evenly distributed across their "bodies" and the effect, if not the actuality, would be that of a sphere.
