Is it ethical for science to modify the genetic structure of an organism? .Yes it is. It has been done, and I am sure you eat a lot of genetically modified food. If you do not, you are mistaken. over 70% of corn and 90% of soy is genetically modified. High fructose corn syrup is in everything. If you avoid that and eat meat you would still ingest genetically modified corn, because it is commonly used as feed for livestock. Carbon isotopes from there can be found in your body. Furthermore, genetically modified plants have helped the environment immensely. They reduced the use of pesticides and herbicides quite drastically. Another important use for genetically modified organisms is to create medicines (mostly antibiotics), vitamins, and other important proteins/enzymes. An example of this is insulin. The only ethical question could be tied in with religion, but that is questionable as well since nowhere in scripture does it state that we may not genetically modify an organism..

Answer 1

of course, why not? i don't think u'll hv any probs if this can save u from suffering from down's syndrome, hemophilia or the other hundreds of genetic diseases. and if it could increase ur resistance to diseases or ur intelligence a liitle ( we could hv women as preety as bollywood stars and as clever as Curie). of course, it is possible that one can make a frankenstein (it requires lots of brains though, and maybe the creator has to be a genetically modified intelligent human)

Answer 2

The Pope would say No! I would say, it depends on what they are modifying and why. If it is for medical research with the intention of curing currently incurable illnesses, then yes it is definitely ethical.
