what vegetables to start with when you are beginner?

Looking for vegetable garden advice

We are interested in starting a vegetable garden this summer. This will be our first go at it and we needed some advice on what vegetables to start with. We also need to know what materials and tools we will need as well as a timeline as to when we should start planting. We have an area of our yard that gets a lot of sunlight. An old tree used to be in the spot that was cut down about 2 years ago. The trunk was shredded up and that is what is on the ground currently. No grass is growing in the spot.

Thanks in advance

Some info Start in the spring! It's coming.

Plant something you will eat.

The time to ripen depends on the plant. Some grow all season long and bear fruit throughout. Some ripen in a certain amount of time and then wither away, and you have to keep planting more of that veggie if you want more throughout the season.

Materials and tools depends on what you will do. Container, in-ground, raised bed? Sounds like it might be in-ground or raised bed. You'll need to consider things like amending your current soil or getting all new and different soil to grow with.

I'm also concerned about the fact that no grass is growing after 2 years unless you mean that the most of the entire tree is still just sitting there in that spot, taking up space that prevents a large growth of grass, but still decaying away (and not just the trunk).

Start with clearing/raking the shredded material
from the tree residue . Read the above site, it will give you a good starting place...you will amend
things as you go along and learn.
Pay attention to your soil temps, don't jump the gun.
Don't be discouraged with some failure, it's part
of the process of learning.

It's fine to plant starts from the big box stores,
but you will find better advice at good nurseries.
Best to you.
