Current US dietary guidelines recommend that individuals consume less 2,300 mg of salt per day. However if you have diabetes, chronic kidney disease, have high blood pressure, are 51 years and older, or are of African American descent, the recommendation is to reduce daily sodium intake to 1,500mg or less.
