IE & Microsoft Question I have noticed that even though I use FF there are some websites out there by major companies that do not take any other browser into consideration other than IE. I was wondering is this something they do on purpose because of some agreement they have with MS? Or might it be they are using some technology on their site that is a MS product that only will work with IE? I know these companies have the money and resources to make the sites compatible with FF but yet they don't.

You can understand compatibility issues..

...with website from small companies and limited resources but not for the larger companies.

Do they have some agreement with Microsoft? I don't know but it would seem self defeating as some potential customers can't use their site and such an issue tells me they can't be bothered unless you do things their way, so they're unlikely to be good at customer service.

they're either too cheap or don't care

or possibly (though unlikely) most of their users use IE and it simply isn't worth their time and money to make their website FF/Safari friendly.

MS server limitations, stakeholders or ignoranc

Most companies that require MSIE only made the mistake of buying and using Microsoft Web server tech.

Some are Microsoft stakeholders. They sell, service or survive only due to their relationship to Microsoft. Many posters in this forum fall into this category.

However, a few just want to make their test cases easier and so ONLY test their sites with MSIE.

Finally, companies don't like spending money on check off items. In many cases, websites are just check off items. Something you gotta have, but invest as little as possible in. So they put something up years ago and haven't bother with it since.

BTW, exploit crackers love these sites. They are much either to inject Windows exploit code into.

I've seen some sites

That were designed several years ago and the only thing that has been updated is the content.

They may not have been mega-corps but they were nationwide.

Why?

Because IE gets updated features, that the others don't have yet, and a majority of users are IE so that's why they use the IE standards. Every browser developer wants " new features".
